fall xc

During the fall, NYA hosts a 5 meet season for athletes in grades 3-8 to explore the sport of cross country (XC).  NYA facilitates meet production for area schools and individuals. We compete at local parks on specially designed cross country courses where athletes race 1 mile (3rd-5th grade) or 2 miles (6th-8th grade).  The season includes our Nashville Regional Championship where athletes can qualify to compete in the Tennessee State Championships.  Athletes can compete as part of a school-based team, a homeschool co-op, or as unattached individuals.

NEW THIS YEAR!  You can sign up for the whole season (register once to be entered into every race) or choose specific meets to race.  If you register for the 5 meet series your fee will include the Regional Meet AND the NYA Championships.  This year the NYA Championships will ONLY be open to those registering for the full season. It will not be included in the single meet registration.  Registration for Regional is, as usual, open for single meet registration BUT if you register for the full season series you will not need to re-register for this meet.  It is already included n your fee.  The only requirement to run in the Regional meet is that you are in this region.  Please check the map below to find out.

So, to recap:

  • 5 meet series registration includes entry to 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2 (Regional - state qualifier, & 10/8 (NYA Championships). Register once and be done!

  • Single Meet registration for 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2 (Regional- state qualifier).  You must register for each race, each with it's own deadline

Specifics on times and locations can be found on our Meet Info page.

We never want finances to keep any athlete from competing! Please reach out to Hollee if you need financial assistance.

NYA will serve as your meet director and facilitator during the developmental season.  We do not hold practices nor train athletes for this program.

GET A TEAM STARTED AT YOUR SCHOOL: Getting a team started at your school is easy!  Once you have decided to coach or found someone who will, coaches & parents can explore our coaches' page with a sample 8-week training program, our coaches' packet, and more great info. Coaches will need to register on our website as a coach and once you do you will have access to your roster and athlete's info. Now all that's left is for you to recruit and set a time and day for practices!  We will have a coaches' meeting in August to go over the ins and outs of the season. Start practicing as early as possible for the best results from your team!

TEAM SCORING: In order to score as a team, schools must have 5 runners per gender, per division (elementary school division grades 3-5 and middle school division grades 6-8).  School teams that have fewer than 5 runners can still participate, they just will not be counted in the team scoring.  All team members MUST attend the same school.  If you are interested in getting a team started at your school or to volunteer coach, please contact Hollee for more information.

unattached Runners

Athletes are also welcome to compete "unattached" if a school team is not in place or you do not wish to start one.  Simply register online, but be sure to still list your school!  You may be the sole representative, but I'm sure they will be proud that you are representing them!  Unattached runners have access to training plans on the Coaches' Page and will be eligible for individual place awards.

meets

NYA will host 5 cross-country meets in the Nashville area.  Each meet will consist of a 1-mile "Elementary School Division" race for 3rd-5th graders and a 2-mile "Middle School Division" race for 6th-8th graders.  All teams and unattached runners compete together in all meets.  Our meets begin promptly at 2:00,  starting with the ES races, and MS races to follow.  The Regional Meet will have race times TBD.  Each runner will be awarded a participation ribbon and our top 10 finishers per gender in each division will be awarded place ribbons.  Your registration fee for the Fall XC Series will cover 3 regular season meets and two championship races; the "NYA XC Championships" and the "Nashville Area Regional Championships".  The NYA XC Championship will be a fun championship race for all those individuals and teams who have raced the full season with us.  The Regional meet will be an open meet for anyone in the "Nashville Region" to qualify for the state meet. Please see the Regional Meet page for full info. You do not have to sign up for the full NYA XC season to compete in Regional.  You will need to check the Regional Map below or on the Regional Meet Page to make sure you are running in the correct Regional meet to qualify for State.  You WILL NOT need to re-register for these championship races if you have registered for the meet series.  If you are in a different region, you will need to register for that regional meet separately. The regional meet will serve as the qualifying race for the KYA Elementary and Middle School State Championships in Knoxville, TN on October 22nd, 2022.  Once you have qualified for the State Meet you will need to register yourself for that race through the Knoxville Youth Athletics website.  More specific meet information (times and locations) can be found on our Meet Info page.
